Around the world kitchen hunt




Who's it for? Age 4+


What you need Piece of paper with world outline or print off our version below, pens or pencils, a globe or world map, food items.


What you do

With one player - set a timer for one minute and the player must gather as many food items with labels, stickers on as possible and bring them to the pre-prepared map. With help from a grownup read where the food was grown or made and look up on the map. Draw a picture of the food item on your own map.


With 2+ players - Each player needs their own drawn or printed map outline. Set a timer for one minute and each player must gather as many food items with labels or sticker on as possible. With the help of a grown up read where the food was grown or made then write or mark on your own map where they came from. Players get 10 points for foods grown in UK, 5 for food grown in Europe, 2 for food grown in North America, South America or Asia, 1 point for Australia and New Zealand.


The winner is the person with the most points.


Grown ups - this game is helping kids to see the journey their food takes and to consider food miles. The winner is the person who's food comes from the most local sources. You can get them to think about how they think their food travelled and how their food journey might impact the world.
