Broad beans are at their best in the summer months. The grow on vines and have big thick pods. Once you've popped them out of their pods, you need to put the beans in boiling water for 2 minutes and then remove the skins. Here are our favourite broad bean facts:

They are packed with B vitamins, folate, iron, magnesium and copper. Among other things these can be good for a healthy brain and blood cells.

You can eat broad beans in pasta, risotto, salads and dips.

Quick recipe: Take a handful of broad beans (skins already taken off) and smash them on toast with the back of a fork. Drizzle with olive oil, lemon juice and a crumble of feta cheese.
