These are a fun and delicious way to start the day. They take a little time, so they work best for a lazy weekend breakfast. Grownups can fry them for very little kids but can assist older kids to do this. Be very careful with the hot pan.
Makes about 12 pancakes
What you need
mixing bowl
measuring jug
whisk
ladle or large spoon
frying pan
spatula
Ingredients
225g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
300ml milk
1 tbsp maple syrup
3 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp sunflower oil
2 eggs
Method
Kids: Put the flour, baking powder and salt into a large mixing bowl.
Put the milk in a measuring jug, add the syrup, peanut butter, sunflower oil and crack in the eggs. Whisk until well combined and there are no peanut butter lumps.
Pour the milk mixture over the flour and whisk until completely combined and you have a smooth batter.
Grownups: Pour a little oil into the frying pan and smooth it around using a piece of kitchen towel. Place this on a high heat. After a minute put a dot of mixture into the frying pan, if it sizzles it is hot enough and you can ladle in enough batter to get a round pancake about 8cm in diameter.
Fry the pancake for 1-2 minutes and then flip using the spatula. Fry for another 1-2 minutes until it is lightly browned. Repeat until all of the batter is used up. You may need to re-oil the pan after a few pancakes.
Serve with fruit, yoghurt and honey.
Warning! Children should be supervised in the kitchen at all times. Use child safe knives and children should never use the oven by themselves.
