Storytime picnic

You can bring your favourite stories to life in your kitchen with a picnic or special tea

Pick out recipes from your favourite stories and plan an extra special storytime meal.

For Grownups This activity uses children's innate enthusiasm for characters and stories to engage them in making their own food. We used a classic book series called Brambly Hedge, by Jill Barklem, as the blueprint for an end of summer picnic. But here are some other classic story ideas:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar picnic

The Tiger who Came to Tea

Famous Five

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Alice in Wonderland

What you need to do

First choose your story and pick the dishes you want to make. We chose to make four things and we made sure to have a mix of sweet and savoury dishes. Invite friends or family to come and share the food. You may need to look up recipes to make your chosen dishes. Buy the ingredients with a grown up and then start preparing your dishes. Have a great time at your special meal and don't forgot your story book so you can show your friends.
