Here are our fun facts about strawberries:
They grow on small plants close to the ground and farmers traditionally put straw underneath them to protect them from the soil and insects. This is how they get the name straw-berry.
They have been eaten for thousands of years, but they were a luxury. So, you might have found a wealthy Roman snacking on a strawberry.
They are packed with vitamins and fibre. They contain vitamin C, which helps boost your immune system - the part of your body that keeps you healthy.
You can get strawberries all year round in supermarkets, which have been grown in other countries. For the most delicious strawberries look for ones grown in the UK from May to July, this is when they are in season. They will be sweet and have a distinctive strawberry smell.
Each strawberry contains a whopping 200 seeds and because the seeds grow on the outside they are not technically a berry.
Quick recipe: Melt 50g dark chocolate in the microwave or in a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir it well. Dip strawberries in the melted chocolate and place on a baking tray. Put the strawberries in the fridge until the chocolate has hardened.
